CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Kernels fell to the Dayton Dragons, 13-9, on Thursday night. The game was the longest of the season, elapsing the previous high of 3:32 set on April 26 against Beloit and May 12 against Beloit.

For the second straight night, Jesse Winker put the Dragons ahead in the top of the 1st inning. Winker connected for a 3-run shot the opposite way to left field to score Beau Amaral and Sammy Diaz.

The Kernels tied the game in the 2nd as Adam Brett Walker begun the scoring with a 2-run home run that just got over the left field wall. Travis Harrison led off the frame by drawing a walk. Tyler Grimes followed Walker's homer with a single, and Grimes scored to tie the game at 3 when Jeremias Pineda singled.

Dayton scored big in the 3rd, pushing across four runs on two hits. The highlight of the frame was a 3-run home run by Brandon Dailey that also brought home Jeff Galalich and Tanner Rahier to push the Dragons lead to 7-3.

Two innings later, Dayton struck for four runs again. Three straight walks opened the inning followed by a fielder's choice RBI by Amaral and a sacrifice fly RBI from Winker. A Seth Mejias-Brean RBI singled later in the 5th made the score 11-3.

In the bottom half of the 5th, the Kernels posted four runs of their own. Four straight batters reached base. Harrison scored on an RBI single by Jonathan Murphy, Grimes scored on Pineda's sacrifice fly, and then Murphy touched home when J.D. Williams connected for a 2-run home run to decrease the deficit to 11-7.

The Kernels inched back to 12-9 after recording two runs in the 8th. Dalton Hicks scored on an RBI single by Jonathan Murphy and Grimes scored on a wild pitch. Murphy finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Kernels starter Josue Montanez (3-2) exited in the 5th, finishing with four innings to his name, allowing 10 runs on 7 hits while walking 6 and striking out 3. Reliever Hudson Boyd followed, throwing three innings in his fourth appearance out of the bullpen. The right-hander gave up one unearned run while walking two and striking out three. Madison Boer pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Dragons starter Ismael Guillon exited after four, allowing four runs on six hits while walking five and striking out three. Reliever Jesus Amezcua exited after 1.1, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Amezcua (3-1) was forced to leave the contest after being grazed by a line drive off the bat of Hicks. After being attended by Dayton staff, Amezcua did leave the field under his own power.

Kyle McMyne finished off the game for Dayton, throwing the final 1.1 innings, striking out the side in the bottom of the 9th.
