Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Four runs in the bottom of the first inning were all that the Whitecaps would need as they captured game two of the three-game set with the Snappers, 5-3. Beloit's Daniel Berlind picked up his second loss of the season, going four innings and allowing four runs off seven hits.

West Michigan jumped ahead early with a four-run explosion in the bottom of the first inning. The Whitecaps scored their runs on five singles and a double off of Beloit's Daniel Berlind to take the early 4-0 lead.

Beloit bounced right back, however, with two of their own in the top of the second inning. RBI singles from Mark Dolenc and Chris Cates helped the defending Midwest League Western Division Champs draw to within two runs, 4-2.

The Snappers drew to within one run in the top of the seventh off the legs of Ozzie Lewis. Lewis scored while attempting to steal third base on a throwing error from West Michigan catcher Jordan Newton. Lewis' run made it a 4-3 ballgame after six and a half.

That would be all that the Snaps would get, however, as they went on to lose by a final of 5-3.

Both Mark Dolenc and Chris Cates had a pair of hits for the Snappers, who dropped to 6-13 on the short season.
