Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Snappers dropped game one of four with the West Michigan Whitecaps on Thursday night, 5-4. The extra inning affair ended when Whitecaps' catcher, James Skelton, doubled home the winning run off of Snappers' reliever, Jose Lugo (2-5), in the bottom of the 12th inning.

Two home runs in the first inning by West Michigan's Deik Scram and Brennan Boesch gave the Whitecaps the early 2-0 advantage. Scram and Boesch both went deep off of Beloit starter, Brian Kirwan.

The Snappers battled right back in the top of the second inning. Beloit's Matt Betsill scored on an error by Whitecaps' second baseman, Scott Sizemore. Betsill stole third and Eli Tintor stole second on the same play, and Betsill advanced to home when Sizemore was unable to field the throw to second by catcher, James Skelton. Betsill's run made it a 2-1 game.

The score remained the same until the top of the seventh inning when the Snappers scored three. Beloit scored off of RBI doubles from Steve Singleton (2 RBI) and Wilson Ramos. The RBI doubles gave Beloit a 4-2 lead.

West Michigan's Jeramy Laster had a two-run single in the bottom half of the seventh to tie the game up at 4-4.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the 12th inning when James Skelton doubled home Scott Sizemore from first. Skelton's double gave the Whitecaps the 5-4 win.

Beloit starter, Brian Kirwan, went 6.1 innings allowing four runs off of seven hits and earned a no-decision. The right hander added eight strikeouts on the night.

Upcoming Schedule: The Snappers play game two of four with the Whitecaps on Friday night at 6:00 pm. Beloit's Cole Devries takes on West Michigan's Duane Below. Beloit's second half record is now 10-9.
