LUGNUT RALLIES SEND RATTLERS TO SIXTH STRAIGHT LOSS

LANSING, MI -- Jonathan Baksh led the Lansing Lugnuts back. The Lansing right fielder had three hits and three RBI in an 8-6 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Friday night at Oldsmobile Park. Wisconsin had leads of 3-0 and 5-3 but could not avoid their sixth straight loss.

Wisconsin (8-12 second half, 30-38) scored three times in the first inning to take the early lead. A two-out RBI single by Ron Garth drove in the first run of the game. The Rattlers loaded the bases moments later on an infield single by Jamie McOwen. An errant throw by first baseman Sean Shoffit after a grounder by Joe White allowed the other two runs of the inning to cross the plate.

The Lugnuts (12-9, 47-43) used a pair of Timber Rattler two-out errors in the bottom of the second inning to get on the scoreboard. Yuber Rodriguez advanced from first to second on a wild pitch and took third on a throwing error on the play by Wisconsin catcher Juan Beltran. Then, Josh Bell's grounder to Juan Diaz was misplayed for an error to let Rodriguez score.

Rattler starting pitcher Steve Richard was pitching well through the first 3-2/3 innings. But, with two out in the bottom of the fourth Baksh sent a grounder off Richard's right foot for an infield single. Richard completed the inning, but left in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out, a runner at first, and a 1-2 count on Scott Campbell.

Justin Souza relieved with the Rattlers still in front 3-1 and got the second out on a grounder. But, Chris Emmanuel singled in a run and took second on the throw to the plate. Shoffit followed with an RBI single and the game was tied 3-3.

Wisconsin broke back in front with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Alex Liddi doubled to start the inning. Carlos Peguero doubled to drive in Liddi for a 4-3 lead. Later in the inning, Peguero scored from third on an RBI fielder's choice by Jamie McOwen.

But, the Lugnuts tore into Souza in bottom of the sixth. Rodriguez doubled to start the inning. Baksh was next with another double to drive in Rodriguez. Josh Bell doubled to leftcenter and Baksh scored the tying run. Joe Kantakevich relieved Souza, but could not keep the game tied for long. An RBI grounder by Jonathan Diaz put the Lugnuts in front 6-5.

A two-out, two-run homer by Baksh in the bottom of the seventh padded Lansing's lead to 8-5.

Reed Eastley made the game a bit more interesting with a one-out, pinch-hit home run off Po-Hsuan Keng in the top of the ninth. But, Keng struck out the final two batters of the game to record his third save.

Game three of the series is Saturday night. Nathan Adcock (2-8, 3.92) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kyle Ginley (2-5, 5.47) is set to start for the Lugnuts. Game time is 7:05pm EDT/6:05pm CDT.
