Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - Tonight's game was tough game from the start for the Snappers after last night's exciting walk-off victory. In the top of the first inning, the River Bandits started the game with two singles, then a three-run home run off the bat of Oscar Tavares to make it 3-0. They wouldn't look back as they cruised to a 6-3 victory to open the four-game set.

In his 12th start of the season, Ryan O'Rourke surrendered a season-high 11 hits in his six innings pitched. His past high was eight hits against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on July 4th. With the loss, O'Rourke falls to 3-3. O'Rourke gave up five earned runs, struck out eight and walked one.

The Snappers (18-23) would cut the lead to as close as one run when Daniel Ortiz and Tyler Grimes would hit back-to-back RBI singles in the second inning. From then on, they'd only muster five hits and one run. The lone run came in the seventh inning when Jhonatan Arias singled home Jairo Perez, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Boone Whiting threw very well for the River Bandits, holding the Snappers offense to three runs on five hits over seven innings. Whiting's record improves to 3-1 and his ERA is a sparkling 1.98. After O'Rourke exited the game, Beloit's bullpen kept them in the game with a combined three shutout innings from Blayne Weller and Jose Gonzales.

Four hitters in Quad Cities' line-up finished with multiple hits including Ronny Gil who was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Tavaras, whose first inning home run proved to be the difference, finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. His season average is now .388.

For Beloit, Perez and Grimes would be the only ones to finish with multi-hit games. Perez (2-for-4) added a double and scored twice, while Grimes (2-for-4) also added an RBI. Perez' efforts earned him the "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game." His season average is up to .353 and now has 14 doubles this season.

The two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow afternoon starting at 2:00pm at Pohlman Field. Manuel Soliman (5-8, 4.08 ERA) will look to right the Snapper ship as they've lost 5 out of their last six games and 13 out of their last 17. Opposing Soliman will be Anthony Ferrera (10-5, 2.98 ERA) for the River Bandits.

Quad Cities (26-15) would tack on three insurance runs to finish off the 6-3 win. With the victory they continue to hold their one-game lead in the Midwest League Western Division over the Kane County Cougars. Since the Clinton LumberKings lost as well tonight, the Snappers still remain 3.0 games out of a wild card playoff spot.
