Brian Hernandez Joins Kernels from Inland Empire; Brandon Decker to DL

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that INF Brian Hernandez will join the Kernels from Inland Empire and that INF Brandon Decker has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to August 4, with an undisclosed injury. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Saturday.
The Angels selected Hernandez in the 27th round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of UC Irvine. He played 20 games with the AZL Angels this year, hitting .270 with a double, two triples and two RBI. He also played seven games at Inland Empire, batting .136 with a double and RBI.
This is Decker's second stint on the DL, as he was on from April 11 to April 23 with a groin strain. In 80 games for the Kernels, he's batting .236 with 8 HR and 31 RBI.
Hernandez is active and available for tonight's 6:30 pm game with the Peoria Chiefs. With today's transactions, the Kernels active roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels begin a seven game road trip tonight in Peoria at 6:30 pm, returning to Perfect game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 13 for a three game series with Kane County.
