Hamilton, Smith Lead Dragons to 12-0 Win

Eastlake, Ohio-Billy Hamilton collected four hits and Josh Smith fired six scoreless innings as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Lake County Captains 12-0 on Saturday night in the first game of a seven-game road trip for the Dragons. Dayton improved their second half record to 26-15 with the win.

It was a well-balanced Dayton attack. All nine Dragons batters scored at least one run in the game, eight of the nine drove in at least one run, and eight of the nine had at least one hit.

The Dragons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. David Vidal lined a double to the left field corner to drive in two runs and Drew Poulk singled to right to bring in Vidal.

Dayton added three more in the fifth when Poulk delivered a three-run double off the fence in left-center field with two outs to make it 6-0.

The Dragons blew the game open with six runs in the seventh, sending 11 batters to the plate. Tucker Barnhart and Theo Bowe both delivered run-scoring doubles in the inning while Juan Duran and Ronald Torreyes each contributed run-scoring singles as Dayton jumped ahead 12-0 and closed out the scoring.

Smith authored his best start of the second half, firing six strong innings, allowing just five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. The Captains advanced only one runner as far as third base against Smith as he improved his record to 10-6.

The Dragons picked up 13 hits. Hamilton was 4 for 6 with two singles, a double, a triple, and his 78th stolen base of the year. Poulk was 2 for 4 with four runs batted in. Bowe was 2 for 4 and scored two runs.

The Dragons continue the series with the Captains on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. (WONE 980 AM). Tanner Robles (3-8, 6.83) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Jordan Cooper (2-4, 4.79). The next home game is Saturday, August 13 vs. Lake County at Fifth Third Field.
