Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The River Bandits put up three runs in the top of the first on a three-run homer off the bat of Oscar Taveras (2-for-4, R, 3 RBI) on their way to a 6-3 win over the Beloit Snappers on Saturday night at Pohlman Field.

Kolten Wong (2-for-5, R) set the tone at the top of the order with a two-hit game. The first four batters in the Bandit order all had multi-hit games and combined to go 9-for-18. Ronny Gil led the bunch with a 3-for-5 game. Taveras and Nick Longmire (2-for-4, R) were the other two with multiple hits.

The Bandits added some insurance with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth as they cruised to victory over the Snappers.

Boone Whiting (3-1) allowed just three runs on five hits over seven innings on his way to the win. Drew Benes and Dean Kiekhefer (4) combined to shut the door on the Snappers over the final two scoreless innings. Kiekhefer earned the save with 1 1/3 scoreless innings worked.

Ryan O'Rourke (3-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing all six Bandit runs, five earned, over six innings. He walked one and struck out eight while surrendering 11 hits in the losing effort.

The two teams continue the series on Sunday when the Bandits send lefty Anthony Ferrara (10-5, 2.98) against Snappers right-hander Manuel Soliman (5-8, 4.08). First pitch is set for 2:00 at Pohman Field.
