FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Connor Powers went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Rico Noel collected five hits, leading the Fort Wayne TinCaps (21-20; 51-59) to a 7-2 rain-delayed victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (25-16; 63-45) on Saturday night at Parkview Field.

The TinCaps' offensive duo made their presence felt right from the first inning, with Noel leading off against Lugs starter Tyler Powell (Loss, 2-3) with a double and scoring on a balk. Three batters later, Powers delivered an RBI double for a 2-0 lead.

Fort Wayne starting pitcher Keyvius Sampson (Win, 9-2) struck out six batters in five innings, allowing only an unearned run in the fourth inning due to a K.C. Hobson double, Oliver Dominguez bunt single and his own throwing error.

Both starters were forced from the game early due to heavy downpours in the bottom of the fifth, delaying the game for an hour and 22 minutes.

When play resumed, Lance Durham's fourth home run of the season brought the Lugnuts within one run at 3-2 in the seventh.

Noel responded in the home half with an RBI single against Sam Strickland, touching off a four-run rally that broke the game open. Powers capped off the action with a two-out, two-run double to left, closing out the scoring.

The Lugnuts and TinCaps play the second game of their four-game series on Sunday at 3:05 p.m., Lansing left-hander Egan Smith (5-4, 3.48) starting opposite Fort Wayne lefty Todd Privett (1-2, 5.89).

The Lugs return to action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday, August 13, against the Fort Wayne TinCaps with LAFCU Fireworks following the game. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
