Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Snappers continued their tailspin Thursday night, as they fell to the Silver Hawks by a 4-3 score in ten innings. Former starter turned reliever Santos Arias picked up the loss for Beloit, giving up the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The Snaps got rolling first with a run in the top of the second inning. Beloit got their run on a error from South Bend's Matt Oxendine that allowed Mark Dolenc to plate the first run of the game. Oxendine threw a ball hit by Andrew Schmiesing away, allowing Dolenc, who earlier singled, to score from second. Dolenc's run put Beloit up 1-0 after one and a half.

The Silver Hawks tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a Joseph Batten solo homer to left-center. Batten delivered his bomb off Beloit starter Steven Hirschfeld.

Matt Oxendine then put South Bend ahead in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI-double to left field. Oxendine's RBI plated Jimmy Principe, who led off with a walk, from first base. Jimmy's run put the Hawks up 2-1 after five.

The Defending Midwest League Western Division Champs then came storming back to take the lead in the seventh inning. Ben Revere cracked a two-run single to left, allowing Jeanfred Brito and Estarlin De Los Santos to score. Revere's RBIs put Beloit up 3-2 after six and a half.

South Bend then tied the game up in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI-single from Collin Cowgill. Collin's single made it 3-3 after seven innings.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the tenth inning, where the Silver Hawks would go home happy. Matt Oxendine cracked an RBI-single to right off Santos Arias that allowed Chance Wheeless to score from third base. Oxendine's game winner sent the Snappers to their fourth consecutive loss.

Steven Hirschfeld was impressive for the Snaps, going 6.1 innings and allowing just three runs on five hits. Steven also struck out eight Hawks in the no-decision.

Ben Revere raised his league-best batting average to .404 with three more hits for the Snappers who fell to 17-15 in the second half.
