Bees Hit Five Homeruns and Defeat Kernels

Burlington, IA (Jul 24, 2008) - The Burlington Bees put on a display of power Thursday night in a 14-7 win over Cedar Rapids. The Bees had five homeruns in the game including two off the bat of Jason Taylor and a grand slam from Ryan Eigsti.

The Bees scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back. After Adrian Ortiz scored a run from third on a passed ball, Taylor hit his first homerun of the night to also score Mike Moustakas. Clint Robinson also had a sacrifice fly in the inning to score David Lough.

The Bees added one more run in both the second and third innings. In the third, the run came via a Kyle Martin solo homerun. After Cedar Rapids got a run back in the top of the fifth, the Bees put the game away in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs. The big hit of the inning was a Ryan Eigsti grand-slam. The homerun was Eigsti's seventh of the season. Taylor also had his second homerun of the game in the inning.

Each team scored three runs in the sixth inning. Two of the runs for the Bees came off Robinson's 11th homerun of the season. The three runs in the sixth finished off the scoring for the Bees. Cedar Rapids scored two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth for their seven runs.

Danny Gutierrez got the start and the win for the Bees to move to 3-1 on the season. He allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

Martin ended the day 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Adrian Ortiz, Taylor, Robinson and Nick Van Stratten each had two hits. Van Stratten also extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

The Bees conclude the series against Cedar Rapids Friday night at Community Field in search of a sweep. Luis Cota is the scheduled starter. First pitch is set for 7:00. The game can be heard online at www.GoBees.com.
