Great Lakes Loons News Release
The Loons and LumberKings now have played five times this season. And the Loons probably can't wait for the LumberKings to head back to Clinton.
Clinton has now won all 2008 meetings between the two teams, following a 4-2 conquest over Great Lakes Thursday night on â50s Night. The game was played in front of a crowd of 4,913 at Dow Diamond.
Cristian Santana reached on an infield single in the fourth with Jonathan Greene able to score all the way from second base for Clinton's first run on the ballgame.
Andrew Lambo responded in the fourth inning with a solo homerun, his 14th of the year, to tie the score at one.
The Loons took the lead on a double by Kenley Jansen, with Francisco Lizarraga scoring just ahead of the relay throw.
But Mitch Moreland, who hit the game-winning homer Wednesday, slugged a sixth inning shot to tie the game at two. The LumberKings took the lead in the sixth on a two-out chopper up the middle by Carlos Dominguez.
Neither starter in the game factored in the decision. Thomas Melgarejo allowed two runs and struck out six in five-plus innings for the Loons. Michael Kirkman allowed two runs in six innings. Miguel Sanfler (2-4) entered with no outs in the sixth and allowed the go-ahead run in the eighth for the loss. Fabio Castillo (2-3) threw two perfect innings for the win. Seventeen year-old lefty Joseph Ortiz recorded his first save of the year.
The Loons (12-21 second half, 42-60 overall) continue their series against Clinton Friday night beginning at 7:05pm. The game will feature a post-game fireworks show, powered by Dow Corning. Right-hander Bryan Morris (1-4, 3.63 ERA) will start for the Loons against Clinton righty Ryan Tatusko (2-6, 4.23).
