Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Beloit Snappers had several opportunities to blow open Monday night's contest with the Lansing Lugnuts at Oldsmobile Park. Instead they did just enough to escape with a 4-2 win over Lansing to knot the series at a game apiece.

The Snappers trailed 2-1 in the sixth inning when reliever Luis Perez walked the first two batters of the frame and gave up a single to load the bases. Jair Fernandez then coaxed another free pass from Perez, one that brought home Chris Parmelee to tie the game at 2-2. Perez would only allow one more run in the inning when Greg Yersich grounded into a double play, but it put Beloit in the lead at 3-2.

They added another run in the seventh when Ben Revere tripled and scored on a Garrett Olson single to double the lead to 4-2. It was Olson's second RBI single of the game, as he also drove home a run in the first.

Lansing had an opportunity in the ninth, as they put the winning run at the plate with no men out. Matt Liuzza doubled and John Tolisano singled to start the inning, but the Lugnuts could not bring either man home as C.J. Ebarb struck out and Yohermyn Chavez bounced into a game-ending double play.

The Lugnuts had the lead for much of the night as they erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first. Kevin Ahrens's single plated Justin Jackson from second base to tie the game at 1-1. Ahrens would later score on Tolisano's RBI single into center field, giving Lansing a 2-1 advantage.

Santos Arias (1-0) notched the win for the Snappers after tossing five innings and allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out five in an outing where he faced the minimum during his final four frames of work.

Perez (0-4) shouldered the loss for Lansing by surrendering both runs in the sixth. He only allowed one hit, but he was responsible for four of the nine batters that the Lugnuts' pitching staff walked in the game.

Matt Williams got his second save of the year by getting Chavez to ground into the game-ender.

Lansing (16-14) and Beloit (13-18) will play the rubber game of the series on Tuesday morning at Oldsmobile Park. Newcomer Marc Rzepczynski (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start of the season for Lansing. He will face David Bromberg (1-2, 5.70), who will take the hill for the Snappers.

Tuesday is Grand Slam School Day at Oldsmobile Park, with first pitch set for 10:35 a.m.
