
Bees Score First Three Runs But Lose 4-3

Ft. Wayne, IN (May 5, 2008) - Despite leading 3-0 in the sixth inning, the Bees could not hold on Monday night at Ft. Wayne and lost 4-3. The Bees committed four errors in the contest and all four runs scored by the Wizards were unearned.
The Bees got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. With two outs, Ryan Eigsti hit a double and then scored a batter later on an Adrian Ortiz single. The Bees made it 2-0 in the fourth inning. With runners at the corners, Jamar Walton stole second and after the throw down to second was made, Mike Moustakas broke for home and scored.
The Bees extended their lead out to 3-0 in the sixth inning via a Mike Moustakas solo homerun. In the bottom of the inning the Wizards scored two runs. One of the runs was a direct result of an error and the other came with two outs making them both unearned.
The two teams played scoreless baseball until the bottom of the eighth inning. With Matt Mitchell pitching in relief for the Bees, The Wizards scored two more unearned runs to take their 4-3 lead. The Bees were set down in order in the top of the ninth inning.
Joe Augustine got the start and pitched very well for the Bees. In six innings, he allowed just two unearned runs on three hits. Matt Mitchell took the loss after allowing two unearned runs on four hits in two innings of work. Moustakas, with his two hits, was the only Bee with more than one hit. Adrian Ortiz went 1-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. In all, the Bees only had four hits in the game.
The two teams will play game two on Tuesday night. Alex Caldera will get the start for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 and the game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The team will return to Community Field for four games against Beloit beginning Thursday May 8th.
