Great Lakes Loons News Release

Steven Johnson was solid through five innings, and Jaime Ortiz launched a two-run homer giving the Loons all they needed to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 2,016 fans at Dow Diamond on Monday night by a score of 6-1.

The Loons scored more runs Monday night than they have scored in any of their last 15 games.

Travis Vetters made it 1-0 in the first with an RBI double to right-center field before Ortiz connected for his team-leading sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to give the Loons a 3-0 advantage.

Ortiz would leave the game in the sixth inning with a hamstring injury after a flyout to center field.

Erik Kanaby, Jovanny Rosario, and Pedro Baez all drove in a run in the victory.

Johnson (3-1) only pitched five innings due to an escalating pitch count, but was able to get out of jams without any harm. The right-hander did not allow a run while striking out six in picking up his third win of the season.

Edward Paredes (1-3) started for Wisconsin and pitched only 2 2/3 innings allowing five runs (one earned) in picking up the loss.

The Loons improve to 14-16 while the Timber Rattlers fall to 10-17.

The Loons and Timber Rattlers conclude their three-game series Tuesday in a rare morning contest. Game time is 10:35am from Dow Diamond where the Loons will be celebrating School Kids Day presented by Holiday Inn, Midland. Daigoro Rondon is scheduled to start for Great Lakes. Tickets are available by calling 989-837-BALL or online at Loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
