Snapper Duo Does in Rattlers

BELOIT, WI -- Joe Benson kept getting on base on Thursday and Chris Parmelee kept driving him across the plate. The Beloit Snappers beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-1 in completion of a suspended game from Wednesday night. Benson had three hits, Parmelee had a pair of RBI doubles, and the Snappers sent the Timber Rattlers to their tenth straight loss. Kyle Parker pitched well for the Rattlers, but took a tough loss.

The Snappers (57-37 overall, 13-11 second half) broke up a scoreless game got the first run of the game. Joe Benson just beat out a high chopper to third for an infield single to start the bottom of the sixth. He was still at first with two outs in the inning with a 1-2 count on Parmelee. Benson took off on the 1-2 pitch and scored when Parmelee doubled into the right field corner

Wisconsin (30-62, 8-16) rallied in the top of the seventh inning. Reed Eastley singled to start the frame and stole second to get into scoring position. He was still at second with two outs. But, Jamie McOwen bounced a single into center to drive in Eastley with the tying run.

Beloit went back in front in the bottom of the eighth inning. Benson started the rally with a lead off double. Parker got the next two batters on a popup and a flyout to keep Benson at second. Rattler reliever Joe Kantakevich relieved Parker to face Parmelee.

Kantakevich got ahead of Parmelee and jammed him on a 1-2 pitch. But, the ball dropped in about two feet fair down the left field line for an RBI double and a 2-1 Snapper lead. Danny Berg was next and doubled to rightcenter to drive in Parmelee for a 3-1 advantage.

Anthony Slama came on to pitch the top of the ninth and got the first two batters on strikeouts. Eastley doubled for his third hit of the game to bring the tying run to the plate. But, Slama struck out Alex Liddi to pick up his first save.

Parker pitched 7-2/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts, but it wasn't enough.
