KODAK, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Smokies capitalized on some miscues by the Montogmery Biscuits at Smokies Park Thursday night, taking the opener in this five-game series, 5-3, and stopping a three-game Biscuits winning streak.

The Smokies dealt Biscuits ace Wade Davis (4-2) his second straight loss, although he allowed just one earned run in six innings.

Davis surrendered two unearned runs, and the lead, in the first inning after a throwing error by second baseman Aaron Sisk. The runs erased an early Biscuits lead, gained when Reid Brignac clobbered a first-inning home run, his 15th.

Though the Biscuits came back to tie the game in the second when Sisk scored on a Patrick Breen single, another Biscuits error led to the eventual game winner for the Smokies in the fifth. The throwing error by Matt Spring landed runner Nick Spears on third after he had stolen second base, in position for a sacrifice fly by Casey McGehee.

The Smokies added individual tallies in the sixth and seventh to seal the win.

With a loss by the Jacksonville Suns Thursday night, the BIscuits remained three games behind the South Division leaders.

The second game of the series is Friday at 6:15 CST. Biscuits lefty James Houser will oppose Tennessee left hander Donnie Veal.
