Jaxx Bats Go Quiet in Loss

(Zebulon, NC) August 3rd- Lee Mitchell had three hits and two RBI's to lead the Carolina Mudcats to a 3-1 win over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in game one of a five game series from Five County Stadium.

Mitchell's performance backed a strong outing from starter and winning pitcher Chris Seddon. Seddon (5-7) allowed a run on just three hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. Seddon walked three and struckout eight for the Mudcats, who improved their second half record to 20-21. Chris Mobley picked up his eighth save of the season as he struckout the side in the ninth inning.

Travis Chick suffered the loss for the Diamond Jaxx, dropping his record to 4-4 on the season. Chick allowed three runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings of work. Marshall Hubbard drove in the only run of the night for the Diamond Jaxx, whose record drops to 16-25 in the second half of the season.

Game two of the five game series takes place on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. CDT. Righty Doug Fister (3-8 4.70) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Carolina will counter with right-hander Jimmy Serrano (4-1 3.09).
