BayBears Rally Falls Short

August 3, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL - A two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning by Emilio Bonifacio was too little, too late Friday, as the BayBears fell to Birmingham 6-4. Chris Kinsey (4-6) suffered his second loss this season against the Barons, pitching four innings, allowing five runs, all earned. The BayBears were held to two runs by Wes Whisler (6-11), who picked up his sixth win for Birmingham.

Birmingham led by three after one inning, on a ground ball single by Stephen Garrett, and a two-run home run by former Major Leaguer Cory Aldridge. Ricardo Nanita entered Friday's game with just three home runs, but he hit two longballs against the BayBears, and added a double for a 3-for-5 night.

Adam Russell threw two perfect innings, in his first outing for the Barons against the BayBears out of the bullpen.

The BayBears have now lost two straight games, and stand in third place, 9.5 games behind first place Jacksonville in the Southern League South. With four games remaining in a ten-game homestand, the BayBears are now 3-3 in the first six games.

Saturday the series continues, with two Southern League All-Stars going for their respective teams, with Mobile RHP Matt Green (11-5) pitching against Birmingham RHP Jack Egbert (11-7) at 7:05.
