Southern League Releases 2008 Schedule

August 3, 2007 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has released the 2008 Southern League schedule. The 45th consecutive season of Southern League action will commence on Thursday, April 3 and conclude on Monday, September 1. The 140-game schedule will contain a split-season format, with the first half ending Sunday, June 15. The five-game series concept, which was introduced for the 2006 season, will be in place for a third consecutive season.

The Southern League will take its traditional three-day All-Star break beginning on Sunday, July 13. The Carolina Mudcats will host the 2008 Southern League All-Star Game on Monday, July 14 at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC. It will be the second league All-Star Game hosted by Carolina, which also housed the mid-summer event in 1997.

"I'm very excited about the 2008 schedule and hope it brings both balanced competition and convenience to our teams and affiliates as well as our fans," Southern League President Don Mincher said. "The five-game series format has worked well for two seasons and we look forward to the same effect in 2008."
