Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Chattanooga, Tenn. - Cory Dunlap belted a third inning, three-run homerun, his first since May 20, while the pitching staff stranded eleven Lookouts runners leading the Jacksonville Suns (69-43, 28-14) to a 5-1 Friday night win over the Chattanooga Lookouts (52-60, 23-19) in front of 3,893 at AT&T Field.

The Suns win combined with Montgomery's win at Tennessee kept Jacksonville three games ahead of the Biscuits in the second half South Division standings. Jacksonville and Montgomery play ten head-to-head games before the end of the second half.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the first inning against Chattanooga starter Carlos Fisher when Alberto Concepcion doubled home James Tomlin to make it 1-0. With men on second and third base and one out, Blake DeWitt next flied out to the leftfielder for the second out. Kevin Howard crossed home, and a throwing error allowed the next runner Alberto Concepcion to score for what appeared to be a 3-0 lead. Chattanooga appealed to third base, saying that Howard left the base early, and the umpire ruled him out, erasing both runs and keeping it 1-0.

Originally the umpiring crew ruled that Concepcion's run should count, even though the appeal was made for the final out. The official scorer and umpiring crew decided during the sixth inning that Concepcion's run should not count since he was the runner behind the appealed out. Lookouts Manager Jayhawk Owens protested the game with a 5-1 score in the seventh inning.

The Lookouts scored in the second inning off of Suns starter James McDonald when Shawn Cumberland doubled home Drew Anderson to tie the game at 1-1.

The Suns then broke through for good in the third inning. An Alberto Concepcion sacrifice fly scored Juan Gonzalez to open a 2-1 lead. Later, with two on base and two out, Cory Dunlap belted his fifth homerun of the season, and first since May 20, for a 5-1 advantage.

Suns starter James McDonald allowed one run on seven hits in five innings with two walks and eight strikeouts while improving to 4-1. Reliever B.J. LaMura pitched two shutout innings while allowing only two hits in his first outing off of a suspension. Mark Alexander pitched two perfect innings to end the game. Lookouts starter Carlos Fisher was tagged with the loss with five runs in six innings while falling to 4-7.

The Lookouts out-hit the Suns 9-8 while leaving 11 runners on base.

Jacksonville and Chattanooga meet in game three of the series Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Suns RH Justin Orenduff will face Lookouts RH Sam LeCure. Fans can follow the action in Jacksonville on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com.
