Hoover, AL - Ryan Searle held the Barons to one earned run with seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings as the Tennessee Smokies (17-19, 60-46) clipped the Birmingham Barons (15-21, 55-51), 2-1, in front of 5,674 fans Sunday evening at Tennessee's Smokies Park.

The Barons claimed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Brandon Short lined a single to center field and raced around the bases on Seth Loman's RBI double to center.

Tennessee responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after Jae-Hoon Ha singled, Ty Wright walked and Blake Lallisingled that loaded the bases. Josh Vitters knocked home Ha on a double-play while Wright scampered to third base. Rebel Ridling knocked home the game-winning run with a RBI double to center field as the Smokies claimed a one-run lead, 2-1.

Searle (3-2), earned the victory for the Smokies as the righty tossed 7.1 IP with one earned run on seven hits and seven strikeouts. Reliever Rafael Dolis (S, 10) registered the save after he hurled 1.0 scoreless IP with two hits.

Charlie Shirek (2-5) received the loss for the Barons after the right-hander yielded two earned runs on 4 hits, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts in 7.0 IP.

The Barons and Smokies battle game two of the five-game series with first pitch set for 6:15 p.m. at Smokies Park. Birmingham sends left-hander Hector Santiago (4-2, 4.54) to the bump and Tennessee counters with right-handed pitcher Maro Carrillo (4-1, 1.76).
