
McOwen, Pryor Lead Generals to Win Over M-Braves

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 31, 2011) - Generals' reliever Stephen Pryor struck out five in-a-row to end the General's 2-1 victory over the Mississippi Braves in the opener of a five-game set at Prinlges Park. Pryor picked up the win, which was his second in three days. James McOwen had a bases loaded, two out single in the bottom of the eighth scoring Scott Savastano that proved to be the game winner. Jackson has played three consecutive one-run games (2-1) and 32 this season (17-15).
Jackson starter James Paxton tossed a season high 6.1 innings, but settled for a no decision despite striking out eight and walking none. He allowed just one run on five hits. Stephen Pryor (2-1) relieved Steve Delabar with the bases loaded in the eighth and fanned two batters to end that inning and all three in the ninth. Braves' reliever Benino Prunedo (1-6) suffered the loss. Randall Delgado started for the M-Braves and surrendered just one run on five hits in seven innings.
Scott Savastano was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring the game winning run on Sunday night. He was the only General with two or more hits. Rich Poythress had one hit and upped his hitting streak to seven straight while Carlos Triunfel increased his to six with a hit. Dan Nelson led the M-Braves by finishing 3-for-4.
The M-Braves struck first on a big fly from their short stop Ed Lucas in the top of the second inning. The homer was his third since coming down from Triple-A Gwinnett and it up the Braves up 1-0.
Jackson knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning after Vinnie Catricala led the inning off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Rich Poythress.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, James McOwen drove in Scott Savastano with a single to left giving the Generals the lead and the win 2-1.
The Generals continue their five-game series on Monday night at Pringles Park against the Mississippi Braves. Game time is set for 7:05 pm. RHP Erasmo Ramirez (7-6, 4.73) makes the start for the Generals against RHP Zeke Spruill (0-0, 0.00) will make his Double-A debut for Mississippi.
