Minnesota Lynx News Release

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Minnesota Lynx guard Katie Smith reached the 3,000-point plateau in Minnesota's 55-69 loss at Los Angeles on June 11, 2004. Smith, who tallied 18 points and now has 3,012 points in her WNBA career, achieved the milestone with an 18' jump shot with 14:13 remaining in the first-half. Smith reached the mark in 167 games, faster than the three other players already in the 3,000-career-point circle (Lisa Leslie 172 games, Tina Thompson 195, Andrea Stinson 211).

The 5-11 guard is the all-time leading scorer in the history of women's professional basketball (ABL/WNBA) with 4,443 points. She scored 1,431 points in two-plus seasons with the Columbus Quest of the ABL.

Earlier this season, Smith moved past Jennifer Gillom into fourth place on the WNBA's all-time scoring list. A four-time All Star and four-time All-WNBA performer, Smith is a member of the U.S. Women's Basketball Team that will compete in the 2004 Olympics in Greece.
