Smith Re-Assigned by Rockets

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced Tuesday that the Houston Rockets have re-assigned point guard Ishmael Smith (6-0, 175, Wake Forest) to the Vipers.

During his first assignment, which lasted from January 17-through-22, Smith played in four games (one start) with the Vipers, averaging 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 31.8 minutes per game. He shot 43.1% (22-for-51) from the field, 30% (3-for-10) from behind the arc and 50% (4-for-8) from the foul line. He scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting against the Maine Red Claws on January 19 and finished by dishing out a career-high 10 assists to go with a career-high three steals against the Dakota Wizards on January 22.

Since getting recalled, Smith has played in two of the Rockets' four games, recording two rebounds in three minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs. Smith is averaging 2.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 12.0 minutes in 26 games (three starts) for the Rockets.
