Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Jamar Smith tied the game with a three pointer with just 3.9 seconds showing on the clock to send the game to overtime where Tiny Gallon closed out the game with six points in OT as the Maine Red Claws (6-6) downed the visiting Idaho Stampede (2-11), 100-98. The loss was Idaho's second consecutive defeat in overtime and extended the Red Claws' win streak to three.
The first half of the game was a continuum of last Thursday night-close and intense. Three-point shooters of both teams created an exciting spectacle for the sellout crowd at the Portland Expo. The action only intensified in the late goings, as Maine guard Matt Janning hit a three pointer to tie the game at 89 with just under a minute to play only to see Idaho's Lance Hurdle make two crucial free throws to give the Stampede the two-point lead. Jamar Smith then made a three pointer with 3.9 seconds left to tie the game at 92, bringing the three-minute overtime.
Maine forward Tiny Gallon was the undisputed player of the game, contributing 17 points, with 6 of them in the overtime period. Guards Champ Oguchi and Sherron Collins both had 15 points, and Mario West had the night's only double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Jamar Smith added 12 to the point total, including the dramatic three pointer with time running out to send the game to the extra stanza.
On the visiting end, Stampede guard Lance Hurdle contributed a high score of 31 points, Luke Jackson scored 23, and Carlos Wheeler added 19 in the losing effort. Antoine Walker also added 15 points.
