Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., Dec. 19, 2010 - The Tulsa 66ers (7-5) used a 10-5 run with under two minutes remaining in the game to surge past the Iowa Energy (9-3) by a 109-104 final score Sunday afternoon inside the Tulsa Convention Center.
The see-saw battle included 13 lead changes and 15 ties. Offensively, Tulsa tied its season-high with 30 assists and forced 19 Energy turnovers on the defensive end.
"I thought we competed for 48 minutes today," 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said. "It was definitely a team effort on both ends of the floor. It was great to see our guys make the plays at the end to win. We are still a team trying to come together and Iowa is a veteran team. This was a really good win for our team."
The 66ers, winners of four of their last five games, were led offensively by point guard Zabian Dowdell with 19 points, a season-high nine assists and four rebounds. Recording a season-high in points with 17, including 15 in the first half, was Ryan Reid. Also scoring in double figures was Elijah Millsap with 16, Latavious Williams with 15, Jerome Dyson with 12 and Larry Owens with 10.
Marcus Lewis and Millsap posted eight and seven rebounds, respectively, to lead Tulsa. Williams pitched in a team-high two blocks.
Leading Iowa with double-doubles were Kyle Weaver with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Courtney Sims with 17 points and 12 boards. Also in double-digits scoring for the Energy was Curtis Stinson with 24, Othyus Jeffers with 21 and Chris Lofton with 12.
The 66ers claimed a 30-25 lead after the opening quarter but were outscored by a 35-26 clip in the second period to trail at halftime, 59-56. The opening two quarters included 10 lead changes and 10 ties.
Tulsa once again broke out in front of the Energy by scoring 27 third quarter points while holding Iowa to 19 points to take an 83-78 lead into the final period.
The 66ers will break for the holidays before returning to the court on Dec. 26 when they travel to Boise to take on the Idaho Stampede at 8 p.m. CT. The contest will mark the first of five straight road games for Tulsa.
