Mad Ants Overcome Slow Start to Defeat the BayHawks

Indiana Mad Ants News Release

Fort Wayne, IN (December 19, 2010)- The Fort Wayne Mad Ants overcame a slow start at home and defeated the Erie Bayhawks 99-90 on Sunday night.

The Erie BayHawks jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead early in the first period of play and had head coach Joey Meyer earning a technical for throwing his clipboard down on the floor in frustration after the team's slow start. The Mad Ants apparently got the message at that timeout, as they started to slowly and methodically work their way back in the game. The Ants closed the Erie lead to seven at the end of the first period and closed the Erie lead to four at halftime.

The second half was all Mad Ants as they held Erie to just 11 third quarter points, and the Mad Ants held on from there for the 99-90 lead, which pushed their record to 7-4, while the BayHawks dropped to 6-5. The key to the turnaround was the 31 turnovers the BayHawks committed compared to 18 for the Mad Ants.

The Mad Ants were led by Rod Wilmont's and Darnell Lazare's 21 points, and Walker Russell, Jr. and Oliver Lafayette scored 16 and 11 respectively.

Jeff Adrien's 19 points and 10 rebounds paced the BayHawks, and Ivan Johnson contributed 18 points for the visiting team.

The Mad Ants next play the Springfield Armor in Fort Wayne on Christmas night in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 pm. Visit www.fortwaynehoops.com for more information on how to get tickets for the Christmas night event.
