Austin, TX Dec. 19, 2010 - The Reno Bighorns defeated the Toros 93-89 in front of a record-setting crowd of 3,393 at Cedar Park Center Sunday night. The back-and forth game came down to the last seconds as the Bighorns grabbed a loose ball that kept the Toros from tying the game. DJ Strawberry led all scores with a season-high 33 points and clinched the game with an uncontested lay-up with less than five seconds to play.
The Bighorns started strong and took a quick five-point lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter. The Toros responded by shooting 53 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line throughout the remainder of the first half. The first half saw nine lead changes and seven ties. Marcus Cousin led all scorers at the half with 15 points followed by DJ Strawberry and Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson who both had 13 points. The first half ended with the Toros leading the Bighorns 50-47.
Both teams started slow in the second half as neither the Toros nor the Bighorns where able to score in the opening two and a half minutes of the third quarter. The Toros were again led by Marcus Cousin who hit two key free throws with less than a minute to play. However, DJ Strawberry took over late in the fourth and scored 12 of his 33 points to push the Bighorns past the Toros.
Strawberry led the Bighorns in scoring with 33 points and was followed by Patrick Ewing (16), Aaron Miles (13), Marcus Landry (11) and Donald Sloan (7). Marcus Cousin earned his fifth double-double leading the Toros with 22 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson (18), Kevin Palmer (15), Michael Joiner (12) and Dominique Archie (8).
