SALT LAKE CITY - The Sioux Falls Skyforce overcame a slow offensive start to take control of the game in the second half of their 119-107 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars at Sanford Pentagon on Saturday night.
Javonte Smart led the Skyforce attack with 34 points, five rebounds and three steals while going 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Over the last five games, Smart has averaged 30.4 points, the Skyforce have gone 4-1 during that stretch.
Derrick Alston Jr. paced the Stars with a career-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds. Alston Jr. has now scored 20 points or more in five consecutive games.
The Stars jumped out to an early lead, scoring a season-high 40 points in the first quarter, shooting 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the field and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from deep.
Sioux Falls trailed 61-59 at halftime but came out swinging in the third quarter. The Skyforce used an extended 20-8 run to open the second half, giving them a 79-69 lead with 5:57 left in the period.
The Skyforce outscored the Stars 32-15 in the third quarter and 60-45 in the second half, on their way to their fourth consecutive win over the Stars.
Carsen Edwards added 22 points and seven assists, while Yoeli Childs pitched in 17 points and seven assists off the bench for the Stars.
Micah Potter contributed 21 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks for the Skyforce. In three games against the Stars this season, Potter has averaged 17.3 points and 11.3 rebounds.
Having completed their four-game road trip, the Stars will head home to host back-to-back home games against the South Bay Lakers and Austin Spurs on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 at Bruin Arena. Both games will tip at 7 p.m.
