Birmingham Squadron News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron (8-7), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, couldn't match the high-powered scoring attack of Rio Grande Valley (11-4), falling to the Vipers 140-120 Saturday night.

Birmingham hung with the Western Conference's co-leaders for the first three quarters, but could never take hold of a lead, as the Vipers notched a wire-to-wire victory on the road. Rio Grande Valley's stout shooting performance was the key to victory, as the team shot a very accurate 55.8% from the field and 40.9% from behind the arc, the second-high three-point percentage recorded by the Vipers this season.

Three Vipers put up 20+ in the game including guard Marcus Foster (22), guard Trevelin Queen (21) and center Mfiondu Kabengele (21) who also registered a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Six players scored in double-digits for the Squadron, led by guard Joe Young, who put up 26 points, seven assists and a steal. Forward Zylan Cheatham also logged his fifth double-double this season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while adding four assists and one steal.

The Squadron now hit the road to take on the Oklahoma City Blue before the NBA All-Star Break on Wednesday, February 16 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
