Great Lakes Loons News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Great Lakes Loons slugged two home runs and received stellar shutout pitching performances en route to a 10-0 win Thursday night over the Dayton Dragons.
The Loons have now won four straight. The 10-0 win marked their second shutout win of the season.
Ethan Martin (3-0) and Luis Garcia combined on the eight-hit shutout. Martin threw five innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven for the win. He lowers his ERA to 0.60. Garcia's four innings of shutout baseball earned him his first save.
Jaime Pedroza got the Loons off on the right track with a two-run home run on the game's third pitch, scoring Dee Gordon. Pedroza finished the game with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Kyle Russell added a home run and three RBIs. Travis Vetters notched three hits. Gordon scored twice and notched two hits.
Every Loons starter, except one, reached base at least once.
The Loons improve to 9-4 and coupled with a Fort Wayne loss, pull to within two games of the division-leading TinCaps. The Dragons fall to 1-12.
The Loons conclude their series in Dayton Friday night, seeking the sweep of the Dragons and their fifth consecutively. Right-hander Justin Miller (1-1, 2.84 ERA) will face Dragons righty Oscar Castro (0-1, 6.75). Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
The game will be carried live on ESPN 100.9-FM.
The Loons return to Dow Diamond Saturday with the first of four against the first-place Fort Wayne TinCaps (11-2). Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL. The game will be followed by a post-game fireworks show, powered by Dow Corning.
