
Castillo's big fly rallies Kernels past Clinton, 8-5

A three run HR by Angel Castillo capped a four run Kernel sixth inning as they went on to an 8-5 home win over the Clinton LumberKings on Thursday night, making a winner out of Kernels starter Manuarys Correa (1-1).
Correa allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out two over 6.2 innings for his first win as a Kernel. Mike Kohn struck out three over 1.1 innings and Jeremy Thorne allowed a run but struck out two in the ninth in a non-save situation.
The Kernels were sloppy out of the gates, committing three errors in the first inning to give Clinton a 2-0 lead. They cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Beau Brooks. Alexi Amarista and Gabe Jacobo both had two hits and Tyson Auer and Darwin Perez each had an RBI.
Clinton reliever Bobby LaFromboise (0-1) faced five batters in the sixth, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits to take the loss. Maximo Mendez was 2 for 3 and Nate Tenbrink was 2 for 4 with an RBI as Clinton out hit the Kernels, 9-8. Clinton starter Brett Lorin allowed an unearned run on two hits over five innings in a no-decision effort.
The Kernels and LumberKings wrap up their four game series on Friday night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Angels top prospect Tyler Chatwood starts for the Kernels on a Z 102.9 Progressive Beer Friday. Fans can enjoy 16 oz. draft beer starting at $1 when the gates open at 5:30 pm, and the price goes up a dollar an hour until reaching full price.
The Kernels welcome the African American Museum to the stadium to celebrate Jackie Robinson Night as well as guests from Regis Middle School and Summit School to Friday's game.
Game time is 6:35 pm and tickets are available on-line at www.kernels.com or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560 after 10 am on Friday. The Kernels hit the road for games at Peoria, April 25-28, returning home on Wednesday, April 29.
