
Angels top pitching prospects join Kernels

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that the Angels 2008 second and third round draft picks, RHP Tyler Chatwood and RHP Ryan Chaffee, will join the Kernels from extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Thursday.
Chatwood, 19, was selected by the Angels in the second round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of Redlands (CA) East Valley HS and spent 2008 with the AZL Angels. He posted a 1-2 record and 3.08 ERA in 11 starts and held AZL batters to a .195 average against. He's ranked as the Angels' #11 Top Prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2009 season.
Chaffee, 20, was selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of Chipola (FL) Junior College. He did not play in 2008 due to a foot injury and is ranked as the Angels #21 Top Prospect by Baseball America.
To make room on the Kernels active roster, LHP Jayson Miller has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League. Miller started two games for the Kernels with a 1-1 record and 3.00 ERA.
Chatwood and Chaffee will arrive in Cedar Rapids this afternoon and be available for Thursday's 6:35 pm game against Clinton. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with one player currently listed on the disabled list.
The Kernels continue a four game series tonight against the Clinton LumberKings. It's 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Fans can purchase 12 oz. draft beer for $1.50 all game.
