Peoria Chiefs News Release
Grand Chute, WI - The Peoria Chiefs were swept in a double header by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night losing game two 8-7. The pair of one-run losses drop the Chiefs to 5-7 on the season and 1-5 on their current road trip which finishes Friday at Miller Park in Milwaukee.
For the sixth time in a row the Chiefs scored first when they got on the board against Evan Frederickson in the top of the second. Luis Flores led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a flyout by Kyler Burke, Junior Lake singled to put runners on the corners. Frederickson struck out Cliff Andersen but then walked Tony Campana to load the bases. David Macias came through with a two-run single to right for a 2-0 Chiefs lead before Josh Harrison bounced out to end the frame.
As they have done all series long Wisconsin came right back to take the lead against Chiefs starter Alberto Cabrera. Juan Sanchez led off the frame with a walk and then Shawn Zarraga drew a four-pitch walk. After a balk by Cabrera, Mike Marseco got the Rattlers on the board with a sharp groundout to second to score Sanchez. Eric Miller tied the game 2-2 with a single to right and Miller stole second to get into scoring position.
Wisconsin added to their lead in the third against Cabrera. Michael Vass led off with a double to center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Shawn Zarraga made it 4-2 with a sac fly to left as Vass scored without a throw.
The Rattlers added to their lead thanks to an error in the fourth. With Ryan Buchter on the hill replacing Cabrera, Miller popped up in foul territory. But Rebel Ridling dropped the ball for his second error of the season and Miller capitalized with a single to right. Miller stole second and scored on a triple to left-center by Brett Lawrie. Buchter unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Lawrie to score for a 6-2 Rattlers lead.
Peoria came back in the top of fifth against Frederickson. Macias led off with a walk and moved to second on a broken-bat single by Harrison. Ridling doubled to left-center to scored Macias and move Harrison to third. After a groundout, Luis Flores drew a walk to load the bases and Kyler Burke walked to force in a run. With Wisconsin up 6-4 Dan Meadows replaced Frederickson and was greeted by a base-clearing triple off the bat off Cliff Andersen. The triple gave Andersen his first RBI of the season and put the Chiefs up 7-6.
After going in order against Mike Perconte in the fifth, Wisconsin took the lead in the sixth. Miller reached on an infield single and was sacrificed to second. Lawrie put the Rattlers up 8-7 with a mammoth home run to left field, his second of the season.
Cabrera took a no-decision after allowing four runs on five hits in three innings. In his first start of the season the right-hander walked four, committed a balk and struck out one. Buchter allowed two unearned runs on two hits while striking out three in his one inning of work. Perconte (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over two innings of work.
