Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - After allowing four runs in the top of the first, Winston-Salem scored 10 unanswered runs on their way to a 10-5 defeat of the K-Tribe on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash has won 10 of their last 11 meetings with the Indians, including an 8-1 record at home this season.
The Indians pounced on spot starter Wander Perez with four runs in the first inning. Lonnie Chisenhall delivered an RBI single and after a run scored on a double-play grounder, Doug Pickens lifted a two-out, two-run home run to hand Kinston a 4-0 lead. Perez and three relievers would combine to keep the Indians hitless over the final eight innings.
Winston-Salem responded in the bottom of the first as third baseman Brent Morel and catcher Logan Johnson tallied RBI singles and right fielder Salvador Sanchez added an RBI fielder's choice to bring the Dash within a run at 4-3.
Winston-Salem took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning when they loaded the bases with no outs. Shortstop Greg Paiml registered an RBI sacrifice fly and Sanchez scored from third on a wild by Mike McGuire to put the Dash in front 5-4.
Both starters only lasted three innings with Perez allowing four runs on four hits and McGuire giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits. McGuire (0-3) suffered his third loss of the season and remains winless since being promoted from Low-A Lake County on July 1.
Kinston reliever Jonathan Holt was greeted rudely in the fourth when first baseman Jimmy Gallagher ripped a double with one out and designated hitter Seth Loman launched a two-run home run to extend Winston-Salem's advantage to 7-4.
The Dash turned to the long ball again in the bottom of the sixth inning as Sanchez, who finished with four RBI, blasted a three-run shot off Bryce Stowell that gave Winston-Salem a six-run cushion.
Dash pitcher Gregory Infante, who was activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, took over for Perez and tossed three hitless innings to earn his first Carolina League win. Nate Jones worked two hitless frames with three strikeouts and Santo Luis recorded the final three outs to run Winston-Salem's winning streak to four games.
Winston-Salem and Kinston conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will hand the ball to RHP Jacob Rasner (3-2, 3.60), while the Indians are expected to start Scott Barnes (0-0, ---), who will be making his debut in the Indians organization after being received from San Francisco in a trade for Ryan Garko. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
