Blue Rocks score four unanswered runs in to rally from 4-2 deficit
Lynchburg fell at Wilmington 6-4 at Frawley Stadium Tuesday night. The Blue Rocks scored four unanswered runs to come back from a 4-2 deficit. The Hillcats will attempt to salvage a win in the series finale Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Blue Rocks scored two runs in the bottom of the second to seize the early lead. Clint Robinson doubled to start the frame and advanced to third on Eric Hosmer's groundout. Paulo Orlando smacked a two-run home run off Lynchburg starter Ronald Uviedo to give the Blue Rocks a 2-0 advantage.
The Cats answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Eddie Prasch drew a one-out walk from Wilmington starter Danny Duffy. After Ciro Rosero struck out, Jose De Los Santos singled and Jordy Mercer followed with a two-run double that evened the score at 2-2.
Lynchburg grabbed its first lead of the series in the fourth. Duffy allowed consecutive singles to Matt Hague and Kent Sakamoto to begin the inning. Erik Huber ripped a two-run double to left field that scored Hague and Sakamoto, putting the Cats in front 4-2.
Lynchburg's lead was short-lived as Wilmington struck back in the bottom of the inning. Uviedo plunked Mike Moustakas with a pitch and surrendered a single to Robinson. After Hosmer grounded out, Orlando knocked in Moustakas and Robinson with a two-run double. Chase Fontaine followed with an RBI single that plated Orlando and gave the Blue Rocks a 5-4 edge.
The Blue Rocks tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Moustakas belted a leadoff home run off Lynchburg reliever Harrison Bishop. Chris Chavez tossed a scoreless inning in the top of the ninth to preserve Wilmington's 6-4 win.
Kelvin Villa (3-6) earned the win by pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Duffy. Uviedo (5-4) took the loss after allowing seven hits and five earned runs in five innings of work. Chavez picked up his third save for the Blue Rocks.
The two teams will meet in the finale of the three-game set on Wednesday with Lynchburg seeking to salvage a win in the series. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Frawley Stadium.
