Sliders Bats Come Alive

June 22, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti end their skid shredding the Washington Wild Things pitching for 15 hits and 9 runs. The Sliders won 9-1 in Washington behind a good pitching performance from James Albury.

Midwest took the lead in the fourth when Robbie Knapp hit a double, then was drove in by Ben Barrone on a single to centerfield. Washington answered right back in their next at bat scoring off a walk pitch. That would be the only Wild Thing run all night though as Midwest put eight unanswered runs on the board.

Four singles in the sixth and a double by Bryan Bonner put Midwest up 5-1 a lead that they would only build on through the night. Midwest scored a run in all of the following three innings to close out the game. Barrone added a solo homer in the eight, his second of the year. Knapp lead the Sliders in hitting going 4-5 with a double and two RBI's. Zack Pace and Roberto Mena both added two hits and scored twice.

Albury received the win after six innings only allowing one run and striking out six Wild Things. The Slider bullpen did their part with Nate Kafka, Chris Nyman, and Earl Oakes each pitching one inning without allowing a run.

"It was a good team win tonight," manager Eric Coleman said. "I hope we got are bats going, and didn't use up all our hits tonight."

Tomorrow's rubber match will be a afternoon game at 12:05 p.m. which will give the Sliders time to travel back to Ypsilanti for their game Thursday at EMU's Oestrike Stadium. P.J. Zocchi will make his first start for Midwest since being put on the disabled list May 27th.
