Scott Billak led off with a single into left and James Guerrero was hit by a pitch. Mike Epping moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt and John Alonso got the Beach Bums on the board with an RBI groundout. Mike Victor followed with a single on the first offering to score Guerrero.
An unearned run crossed in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 3-0. Patrick Perry singled on the first pitch, moved to third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch. Andy Clark took the loss for Florence, working six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits to go with five strikeouts.
The lone Florence run came in the final inning for Reese. Erold Andrus singled with one out and scored on a two-out double off the bat of Ryan Basham to trim the lead to 3-1. David Hurst entered in the seventh and struck out three in his two innings out of the Beach Bums bullpen while Jeff Williams recorded a 1-2-3 ninth to tally his league leading eighth save of the season.
