Friday Nights Fireworks Canceled
June 22, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
The Midwest Sliders' first fireworks night, scheduled for Friday, June 26th, has been cancelled due to lack of corporate participation.
"We had two corporate sponsors lined up for our Friday night fireworks next week," said Sliders Sales Manager Jerry Garland. "One sponsor indicated it was going out of business and the other, while making a verbal commitment, never returned a signed contract or provided a check."Â
The Sliders still hope to hold its second scheduled fireworks night on Friday, August 14th, when the Southern Illinois Miners come to town. But, according to Garland, a couple of area businesses will have to step up to the plate to fund at least half of the cost before the club can finalize plans.
"These (sponsorships) will have to be found soon because gaining approval from Eastern Michigan University and the City of Ypsilanti is typically at least a 30-day process."
Also the doubleheader with the Lake Erie Crushers June 30th start time will be 5:05 p.m. with games opening at 4:05 p.m.
