Second baseman Luis Figueroa, who entered the night with the seventh highest average in the PCL, was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI for Edmonton. The victory was the ninth in the last 12 games for the Trappers, who are currently in first place in the North Division. Edmonton and Las Vegas continue this four-game set on Wednesday night at TELUS Field.
Edmonton opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out Figueroa singled to left field and Sledge followed with a triple down the right field line that plated the second baseman with the Trappers first run of the game. First baseman Ryan Balfe then doubled to left-center, scoring Sledge with the second run. Las Vegas left fielder Chin-Feng Chen led off the second inning with his 15th home run of the season. The Trappers took a three-run lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run blast by Valentino Pascucci, his 14th of the campaign. The 51s bounced right back in the top of the fourth with three runs off Trapper starter Seung Song. Second baseman Joe Thurston led off with a double and scored on a home run by Bubba Crosby, his second in as many days and 12th of the season. With two down in the inning Eric Rigs singled to right-center, plating Koyie Hill with the tying run.
Randy Knorr doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth for the Trappers, moved to third on a fly ball and scored on an infield hit by Peter Bergeron. Luis Figueroa reached on a bunt, which advanced Bergeron to second and Sledge followed with a single that scored the center fielder. Ryan Balfe reached on an infield single which allowed Figueroa to score the Trappers seventh run. Chen took Song deep for his second home run of the game in the top of the fifth inning to narrow the Edmonton lead to two runs. He has six home runs in his last seven games at TELUS Field. Las Vegas' Chris Clapinski was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth. He advanced to third on a single by pinch-hitter Nick Theodorou and scored on a single up the middle by Calvin Murray. Sledge put the Trappers up 9-6 with a home run to left field that also plated Figueroa. Edmonton plated a single run in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring.
