Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today that they will host a "Hoops for Troops" Military Appreciation night in collaboration with the Utah Veterans Alliance on Monday, Feb. 13 as the Stars take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7 p.m. MT at the Maverik Center.
In honor of the "Hoops for Troops" game night, the Stars will wear custom Military appreciation uniforms, inspired by Utah's Hill Air Force Base. The Stars gifted several groups of veterans and their families tickets to enjoy the game. Veterans attending are encouraged to bring military identification upon entry and will be recognized throughout the evening. Military members and Stars fans alike will experience a fun, family night of basketball and activities for all ages.
Salt Lake City's custom uniforms were inspired by the Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" aircraft. The B-17 was manufactured in 1945, before serving in the Brazilian Air Force. This Boeing model was one of the first to include a flight deck instead of an open cockpit. It now stands proudly on display at the Hill Aerospace Museum.
For Monday's match-up the Stars will partner with the Utah Veterans Alliance, inviting them to be recognized on the court at half time and incorporating their logo onto the game's uniforms. Their organization's goal is to recognize and show appreciation to Utah's military community through service and the promotion of public awareness to the needs of local veterans. Immediately following the game, the player-worn jerseys will be available online for auction, with all net proceeds to be donated to the Utah Veterans Alliance.
The signed Military Appreciation player jerseys will go on auction immediately following tip-off at 7 p.m. MT, and all bidding will close on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The link to the auction will be posted LIVE on all Salt Lake City Stars social media accounts (@slcstars ).
Tickets for the evening are available for purchase at slcstars.com.
