Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After falling into an early hole, the Springfield Armor (1-9), presented by MGM Springfield, saw its second half comeback thwarted in a 112-94 defeat at the hands of the Sioux Falls Skyforce (8-2) Saturday night at the MassMutual Center.
Sioux Falls' two 20-point scorers, along with 23 turnovers from the Armor, resulted in Springfield's fourth straight loss and the Skyforce's second straight road victory.
Trailing 12-10 in the first quarter, forward Gary Forbes knocked down his lone three-point attempt of the night, and one of just three by the Armor as a team, to put Springfield in front 13-12. That would be the last lead the Armor would hold as 10 seconds later, Sioux Falls drained a trey of its own, finishing the quarter on a 15-4 run to take a 28-17 edge after 12 minutes.
The Skyforce kept the Armor at a double digit deficit throughout the second quarter, entering halftime with a 57-40 advantage. Reed reached double figures by the break, scoring 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field. The Armor shot 45.7 percent from the floor over the first 24 minutes, but turned the ball over 15 times while Sioux Falls racked up 12 steals. The Skyforce's DeAndre Liggins led all scorers at the break with 13 points as an eight-point differential in fast break points aided in Sioux Falls' 17-point lead (outscored Springfield 10-2).
Climbing out of a 17-point hole at halftime, the Armor came roaring back to pull within eight halfway through the third quarter after forward Dennis Horner drilled a three from the top of the key. The Skyforce offense responded once again, finishing the quarter by outscoring Springfield 18-6 over the remaining 5:47 for an 88-76 lead with just 12 minutes to play.
After allowing Springfield to hold a 36-31 edge in third-quarter scoring, Sioux Falls proceeded to salt the game away with a 24-18 advantage in the fourth quarter for the 112-94 victory.
Two Skyforce members reached the 20-point threshold with Liggins and Charlie Westbrook combining for 40 points, while Justin Hamilton added 16 of his own. Sioux Falls' nine three pointers weighed heavily in a game in which the two teams were even at the foul line and included just a one-point differential on fast break points (Sioux Falls, 12-11) after the final buzzer.
Reed led all scorers with 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field, while Horner, Forbes and guard Tyshawn Taylor each dropped 15.
The Armor will now host the Maine Red Claws, NBA Development League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. matinee inside the MassMutual Center in the team's final game before the holidays.
