Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO - The WNBA Chicago Sky (3-3) heads on the road this week, following back-to-back wins over the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx -- the franchise's first ever winning streak. The team faces the Phoenix Mercury (4-3) on Thursday, June 7 at 9 p.m. (CDT), followed by another road game against the San Antonio Silver Stars (4-2) on Saturday, June 9 at 7 p.m. (CDT).

On Thursday, May 31, the Sky lost a close game in overtime against the Connecticut Sun, who were Eastern Conference Champions in 2006. Despite losing a 17-point lead, the team gained confidence by playing well against one of the best teams in the league, with several franchise records set, including Candice Dupree's career-high 31 points. In Washington on Friday (6/1), the Sky won 75-70, with Candice Dupree and Jia Perkins each scoring 19 points. In last night's (6/3) win over Minnesota, the Chicago Sky came out hot, opening the game against the Minnesota Lynx on a 13-0 run. They never relinquished the lead and held off a fourth quarter Lynx comeback for the team's first home win of the season, 78-72. The Sky also debuted their first ever bobble head giveaway, featuring Dupree. She didn't disappoint, with a team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, followed by hometown girl Dominique Canty's 16 points and 5 assists.

WNBA ALL-STAR VOTING

WNBA All-Star Voting has begun, and the Sky has five players on the ballot, including Dominique Canty, Kayte Christensen, Stacey Dales, Candice Dupree and Chasity Melvin (listed under Washington Mystics). In 2006, Dupree was the lone selection from the Sky on the WNBA All-Star Team. Voting can be done in-game through the end of June and online at Chicagosky.net. The WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 15 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

NEXT HOME GAME

The Sky's next home game is Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. v. the Seattle Storm. There is a pre- game Careers in Sports Workshop, from 4-6 at the Pavilion with speakers from the Sky, the Chicago Bears, TeamWorks Media, LaSalle Bank's sports marketing VP, Dwyane Wade's agent, and the Chicago Park District recreation director. More information and registration is online at chicagosky.net.

DADS & DAUGHTERS

The Sky's "Dads & Daughters Night" is the Friday before Father's Day, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. when the Sky takes on the New York Liberty. This is a WNBA-wide promotion, encouraging fathers to spend time with their daughters. The Sky is offering a special $44 ticket package for dads and their daughters: 2 tickets, 2 t-shirts, $16 in Sky Bucks for food, plus the opportunity for both to make lay-up on the court after the game and have a photo take with Miss Illinois Heidi Ekstrom at halftime.

INJURY REPORT

Stacey Dales has missed three games with a strained hamstring. Coach Overton thinks she may be able to play this week.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS

Chicago Sky minority owner Michelle Williams, well known as a member of Destiny's Child and star of the Chicago production of the Color Purple, attended the June 3 game, and sat courtside with Color Purple co-star Jeannette Bayardelle. The two caught the game between their Sunday matinee and evening performances. Chicago Bulls player Tyrus Thomas also enjoyed the game courtside. Thomas attended Louisiana State University along with Minnesota star Seimone Augustus.

DANCE COMPETITION

In the dance competition finale at half-time of last night's game vs. Minnesota, Fusion Dance Company from Buffalo Grove won the grand prize, after beating out 20 other teams in previous competitions to reach the finals. They took home a cash prize of $1000 and a contract to perform at three future Chicago Sky games. Runners-up House Arrest 2 received $500 and a contract to perform at one future Chicago Sky game.
