Sacramento Monarchs News Release
SACRAMENTO, CALIF., June 4, 2007 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announced the signing of free agent Linda Fröhlich and the waiver of center Brittany Wilkins.
A 6'3" forward, Fröhlich has three years of WNBA experience playing with the New York Liberty for two seasons 2002-03 and most recently with the Indiana Fever in 2006.
Through her three seasons in the WNBA, she has appeared in 62 games and averaged 7.3 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.1 blocks per game. Fröhlich spent the 2006-07 off-season in Turkey helping her team, Fenerbahce, win the Turkish League Championship.
"We felt we should take the opportunity to sign Fröhlich due to our current situation," said Monarchs General Manager John Whisenant. "She's very skilled: a good passer and shooter. She is different than our other posts, which will give our coaching staff some different options as she learns our system."
Wilkins originally signed with Sacramento on April 14, 2006 as a free agent and appeared in four games during the 2006 season. She re-signed with the organization on February 14 of this year and started both preseason games for the team averaging 16 minutes, 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. Wilkins has been on the inactive list since the start of the 2007 regular season.
"Waiving Wilkins was a hard decision," said Whisenant. "She was a great person with a wonderful personality that everyone enjoys both on and off the court. We wish her all the best."
Season tickets and flexible ticket packages are on sale now. For more information, please visit the Monarchs Web site at SacramentoMonarchs.com.
