Sky Sox Win Slugfest Over Beavers, 12-9

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox outslugged the Portland Beavers on Wednesday night at Security Service Field as 4,337 fans saw the Sox win 12-9.

The Sky Sox knocked out 18 hits on the night and needed every single one as the Sox pitching staff struggled to keep Portland in check. Starter Russ Ortiz tossed just four innings and gave up six runs on seven hits and a Sky Sox season-high seven walks. Ryan Speier (2-1) relieved Ortiz and worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win but Matt Wilhite and Damian Moss gave up a combined three runs on three hits and three walks to keep the Beavers close. Scott Munter worked a perfect eighth and Matt Belisle set them down in order in the ninth to notch his eighth save.

At the plate, Christian Colonel was the star of the night going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Kenny Perez, Matt Murton and Edwin Bellorin each had three hits and Mark Bellhorn drove in three.

Cesar Ramos (4-6) took the loss for Portland after giving up nine runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Colorado Springs goes for the sweep tomorrow night at 6:05 PM as they wrap up their regular season home schedule. RH Jhoulys Chacin (1-2, 5.23) will take the mound for the Sox opposite RH Cesar Carrillo (0-3, 6.14).
