Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wis. - Attention citizens of Honkville: Poopsie has arrived!
The Beloit Sky Carp are proud to introduce the latest member of the Flock, our new mascot, Poopsie.
Poopsie was introduced to an excited crowd following Friday night's game against South Bend at ABC Supply Stadium after an elaborate video created by the Sky Carp production crew.
The process to name the new mascot began back in April, when the club reached out to its loyal fanbase for suggestions. After over 1,000 names were submitted, a final group of five was chosen to re-vote.
Poopise, a term of endearment used toward a child or significant other, has Wisconsin ties, with the first recorded reference to it found in the Sheboygan Press in the 1930's.
"We're very excited about having Poopsie here as a permanent member of the Sky Carp gaggle," Brockman said. "It's a fun name that I think our fans will really embrace."
In the twilight of his career, Beloit's long-time mascot, Snappy D. Turtle is more than ready to hand off the reins.
Snappy, seeking a greater work-life balance, will move towards a supporting role at the ballpark, poking his head out of his shell on occasion to make sure his protégé is doing his job, and to reconnect with all of his friends in the community.
Poopsie carries a bit of local history as well. Paying respect to Beloit's history, the mascot's swimming goggles were designed in the style of aviator goggles worn by Beloit's Bessie Raiche, the first woman to fly an airplane solo in the United States.
Want a chance to connect with Poopsie? There will be plenty of opportunities coming up to do just that!
Besides being at every Sky Carp home game, Poopsie will be making appearances at the Janesville and Beloit Farmers Markets every Saturday morning and a number of other community events as we move forward in this new chapter.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
