Sky Carp Drop Opener to Cubs

June 28, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT - The Beloit Sky Carp couldn't overcome a slow start and fell 6-3 to South Bend in the opener of their six-game series Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

The Cubs plated three runs in the first inning against Beloit starting pitcher Chris Mokma, hitting a pair of triples and a home run.

While Mokma settled down, allowing just one more run in the next four innings, the Sky Carp offense couldn't quite overcome the early deficit and saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt.

In front of a terrific Tuesday crowd of 1,705 enjoying a perfect night along the banks of the Rock River, the Sky Carp scored three times in the sixth inning, highlighted by a Davis Bradshaw RBI single.

The Cubs added a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, and despite the Sky Carp loading the bases in the bottom of the frame, Beloit couldn't get any closer.

The Sky Carp and Cubs will play game two of the series Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Visit Skycarp.com for tickets.

The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
