Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (37-33) scored in only one inning but got four runs in the fourth that was enough to gain the win against the Lansing Lugnuts (25-45) 4-2 on a cool Tuesday evening night at Classic Park.
Tanner Bibee worked five scoreless innings and in total has allowed no earned runs over eight innings against Lansing this season. Despite allowing five hits, Bibee struck out seven and stranded five Lugnuts on base.
Lake County would have a player single in each of the first three innings. Tyler Soderstrom ended the second and third inning, with two throw outs of Captains runners going from first to second.
In the bottom of the fourth, Joe Naranjo walked and Alexfri Planez doubled down the right-field line to begin the inning. Petey Halpin would step up and on a 1-1 pitch ripped the ball down the right-field line scoring both runners. The ball would go under the bench in the Lake County bullpen, Lansing right fielder Lawrence Butler raised both of his hands but the play continued and Halpin raced home.
It was the first Captains inside-the-park home run since Ruben Cardenas hit one on April 16th 2019 against Bowling Green.
The Captains bullpen collected the final 12 outs. Davis Sharpe allowed two runs on a solo homer in the sixth and after an error in the seventh. In both innings, Sharpe earned inning-ending strikeouts to halt Lansing.
Jordan Jones earned save number three, allowing just one hit and one walk over two innings.
Lake County and Lansing will play game two of the six-game series at Classic Park tomorrow Wednesday, June 29. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m and for fans 21 and older, there will be 12 oz for three dollars.
