Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves could not hang onto a pair of leads on Sunday afternoon at PNG Field as they suffered a series sweep at the hands of the Altoona Curve with a 3-2 loss.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Curve starter Domingo Robles. Luke Burch led off with an infield single to extend his hitting streak to 13 straight games. Jose Azocar followed with a base hit to put a pair on. A deep flyout to right off the bat of Frank Schwindel moved Burch to third. He later scored on an error for a 1-0 Erie lead.

Altoona tied the game in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Tarik Skubal. Jared Oliva walked with one out and advanced to third on a throwing error. Oliva scored on a Bligh Madris single to make it a 1-1 game.

Erie regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning against Curve reliever Yeudy Garcia. Daniel Pinero led off with a walk and scored on a two-out Cam Gibson double for a 2-1 lead.

Altoona took the lead against reliever Anthony Castro in the last of the sixth. With two outs, Castro walked Oliva and Logan Hill. Madris followed with a two-run double for a 3-2 Curve lead.

A trio of Curve relievers in Blake Cederlind, Angel German and Matt Eckleman held Erie to just one hit over the final three innings of the game. Cederlind (3-0) earned the win while Eckleman earned his 16th save in as many chances.

Castro (3-2) took the loss for Erie allowing two runs on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Skubal took the no-decision allowing an unearned run on one hit with two walks while tying his career-high with 11 strikeouts in his Double-A debut.
